Research Lines and Projects

– LP 1 – Organizational Development and Sustainability:

This line of research analyzes Santa Catarina’s regional development from the perspective of sustainable organizational development. From an organizational perspective, it is concerned with the different organizational models that address sustainable development issues, involving the public, private and third sector. It comprises studies on organizational performance and dynamics, socio-environmental responsibility, innovation, business management and production chains.

In light of the interdisciplinary approach, sustainable organizational dynamics constitute an alternative for enabling groups with common goals and objectives, to overcome or transform individual participation into formal collective structures. Considering the growing change in sustainable organizational practices and capacities, the construction of alternatives that strengthen this organizational dynamics promotes regional, state and national development. Thus, this line of research focuses on the role and influence of sustainable organizational models in the regional socio-political-economic-cultural development of Santa Catarina.

Factors such as structure, organization, environment and market, performance and representativeness in institutions, direct studies and research aimed at stimulating production processes in the region of Alto Vale do Rio do Peixe. The sustainable organizational issue, involving the different institutional models will be the predominant focus of studies to consolidate the knowledge that promotes the development process in the regional context of Santa Catarina.

The approach of theoretical themes focuses on conceptual studies necessary to understand the socio-family and occupational, environmental, growth, productivity and competitiveness problems that organizations face in local, regional or national development.

LP1 RESEARCH PROJECTS:

1) Assessment, performance and socioeconomic impacts of higher education;
2) Sustainable Regional Development; 3) Social Development, Innovation and Business Management and Their Interfaces with Strategy and Market;
4) Management, Agribusiness and Development.

– LP 2 – Quality of Life and Development:

This line of research aims to analyze the relationship between essential aspects of society and how they are associated with its development, especially health and education. In fact, the research carried out in this line seeks to rethink and create foundations that dialogue with the structuralist and economic bases in order to create a collective development strategy. The approach of the line of research refers to the interdependence of health with economic and political aspects that generate development, remembering that interdisciplinarity and the various strands of thought are fundamental for sustainable and responsible development.

The understanding that health conditions and quality of life depend on more global aspects and vice versa is also the subject of research carried out within this line of research. When rethinking the health of workers, the elderly, students and other social groups, it is verified how different factors can be associated with the condition of health and illness and how different economic, social and political actors can be connected to these conditions. Quality of life, on the other hand, results from a subjective and multidimensional construction, influenced by several factors and has been identified as a central analytical category to promote integrative and interdisciplinary approaches.

Quality of life is adopted as synonymous with health, living and working conditions, physical and emotional well-being, however, different areas of knowledge approach this construct differently. Therefore, it is necessary to expand the spectrum of analysis and studies to understand the multiple connections related to the dimensions of quality of life.

LP2 RESEARCH PROJECTS:

1) Health assessment in a population vulnerable to physical exercise and treatment of diseases with the help of medicinal plants;
2) Health assessment in situations of vulnerability and in occupationally exposed to pollutants;
3) Social determinants of health and quality of life in the population of the Midwest of Santa Catarina;
4) Higher education, development and social welfare.

– LP 3 – Society, Citizenship and Security:

The notion of development in this line of research is analyzed in the light of the concepts of citizenship and security. Citizenship is understood as a concept that expresses the individual’s belonging to society, which is the expression of the human organization that gives rise to the State. The State must guarantee the individual the possibilities of full exercise of his citizenship, insofar as it guarantees him the fundamental rights summarily provided for in the universal declaration of human rights under the individual and collective aspect.

I have In this perspective, security is understood as a construct of activities oriented to the culture of peace and citizen protection, which are the object of investigation in this line of research from multiple perspectives, especially that of sustainability. The complex nature of the problem requires an interdisciplinary approach, highlighting approaches and interfaces from the fields of Law, Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Administration. In this sense, different Organs, Institutions and Companies constitute a fertile field of investigation, insofar as they are responsible for offering active stimuli so that citizens can live in harmony, work, produce and have fun, free of risks to which they can be exposed. This line of research guides the principles of Human Dignity, Community Approach and Participation, Legality, Morality, Professional Preparation, Organizational Pluralism, Separation of Powers, Progressive Use of Force, Transparency, Responsibility, from the Use of Intelligence to Risk Prevention and Social Peace.

LP3 RESEARCH PROJECTS:

1) The contribution of associativism to environmental, economic and social sustainability: analysis of the Brazilian and foreign experience;
2) Security, Knowledge, Sustainability and Citizen Training for the 21st Century;
3) Ethics and Citizenship in a changing society;
4) Human Rights, Democracy and Sustainability.

– GPECS – Ethics, Citizenship and Sustainability:

Socialization has a decisive influence on people’s lives, as it contributes to the sedimentation of behaviors in the form of habits, predisposing them to lastingly act in a certain way. In this sense, there is no way to choose between educating or not in values, what one can do is reflect on which values one intends to promote. As there are ethical implications related to the validity of the desired values, reflection on the subject cannot be postponed. It starts from the assumption that the non-fostering of a habit is the consolidation of its opposite. Having the understanding that the human being is an essentially social being and that citizenship is the concept that expresses the person’s belonging to associated human life, the objective of the research group is to develop sociological and philosophical analyzes regarding the values in contemporary society, especially sustainability, with a view to promoting citizenship.
